Like the cutting and blowing of Waterford’s crystal, the handcrafting of cased crystal is a specialized art. Using centuries-old techniques of glassblowing, artisans shape pure, clear crystal and master the fusion of clear and colored crystal, in which newly formed crystal is plunged into a fiery kiln where brilliant, colored crystal encases its body. Then a master cutter painstakingly cuts through the envelope of color to release the pure crystal encased beneath it.
